Do you want to know how to become…

Stronger

STRONGER

What does strength mean?

  • Being able to lift heavier weights
  • Being able to lift lighter weights for longer
  • Getting a stronger core
  • Mentally strong and able to persevere when the going gets tough

4 different examples and you can probably add a few more of your own. What a different range though!

Whatever your goals may be with regards to getting more strength, I can get you there. We will discuss your goals, decide the best course of action and then work out a programme. I have got many years’ experience with strength training, having qualified as a British Weight Lifting Instructor in 2007. I also compete in Body Fitness competitions, so have gained extensive knowledge of training methods to gain strength and how to sculpt a great physique.

“I have been working with Sarah since May and I have gained a new understanding about strength and diet. Sarah will push me to my limits and I have gained both physically and mentally. My other pastime is cycling, and the weight training has helped develop my strength for cycling too. I recently completed a 100 mile cycle and a 3 week tour of Scotland with minimal muscle fatigue. But watch her though…  She adds a sneaky 2.5kgs when you think you have hit your limit! Would definitely recommend Sarah for PT.”

Fitter

FITTER

How do you get fit?

This is a very common question and has always got a different answer. Your version of being ‘fitter’ will not be the same as your friend, partner or me! Whatever your aim though I can get you there.

Fitter might mean being able to run a 5k, or run a 5k a bit quicker! It could be you want to be able to complete a HIIT class without needing 2 days to recover. You might be a sportsperson and want to be able to keep going to the final whistle, or just being able to play with your children for longer without having to have a lie down!

As well as many years of Personal Training experience I have also competed at National levels in Hockey, Athletics and Volleyball. I gained knowledge from many fantastic coaches competing in these sports. I also learned different training methods aimed at strength, speed, flexibility etc.

Being fitter incorporates many elements – speed, agility, coordination, balance, motor skills etc.

Depending on your goals we will work on some or all of these.

“With a pending high altitude trek with my daughter, I came to the decision that I needed to get fitter and lose a few pounds to make the experience more enjoyable.
I googled local Personal Trainers and found Sarah Grant PT. Sarah was very motivating, experienced, knowledgeable and great to work with. Within the time span of 6 months my weight had dropped, my eating habits had changed (for the better) and my fitness level had improved dramatically.
Needless to say, I completed the trek with ease!!”

Toned

TONED

You will have heard or seen lots of articles or pictures of ‘toned’ people. Odds on they show someone who is ‘competition’ ready, is a model or there has been some air-brushing. My photos show the difference in me – ready for competing and my ‘normal’ body shape. My normal body shape retains quite a high percentage of muscle mass/definition, but it also naturally carries more body fat.

If you want to get really lean, with low body fat, then I can guide you in this. It will take time and a lot of effort. You do not get ‘bulky’ or really ‘defined’ without a lot of hard work and 100% effort! I am very experienced in changing body shape – from sports mode, general fitness and into competition readiness.

Let me help you achieve your goals!

“I had personal training with Sarah, my aim was not to lose weight but to tone my body. Sarah helped me with my diet, set me a personalised training programme and guided me throughout each session. Both these together played a big part in reaching my goal. My fat percentage dropped, muscle percentage increased, and I stayed roughly the same weight which was my aim.”

Lose Weight

LOSE WEIGHT

We all have our reasons for wanting to drop a few pounds. You may have a special occasion coming up – a wedding, holiday or perhaps a sporting challenge! Whatever the reason I can make sure you get there in a controlled, safe and effective manner. Having competed in a variety of sports I have sometimes needed to be lighter, slimmer or stronger. I also compete in Body Fitness competitions so changing my body shape is somewhat ingrained.

Losing weight is not a quick thing, at least not if you want it to be sustainable and healthy! I train hard for competitions, but a massive part is my eating regime.  I don’t like using the word ‘diet’ because it has negative connotations for many people. I control my food intake reducing it in a controlled manner and in line with the Recommended National Guidelines.

If you are looking to lose weight I am your ideal Personal Trainer due to my experience with training and competing in sports and body fitness competitions.

“A group of my friends and me had Sarah train us. We wanted to lose some weight before we went on holiday and met up twice a week for training. She opened a Facebook page which helped motivate us, shared cooking tips and recipes and kept in close contact so when we needed advice and encouragement she was there for us.”

Confident

CONFIDENT

What makes you feel confident?

Sometimes we are confident but when put in a new situation we feel anxious. Starting a new gym or with a new Personal Trainer may have that same effect. Unusual surroundings can be quite scary for some people. Even regular gym goers feel apprehensive going in to new gyms. You are not alone if you feel wary of your first day at the gym.

Therefore, working with an experienced Personal Trainer can really help build our confidence. I’m not just an experienced Level 4 Personal Trainer. Being just over 50 I am also able to understand many of the trials and tribulations you face.

I get aches and pains

I have had many injuries and illnesses

I understand the pressures of work, family etc.

Working with me will not only get you in shape (whatever your goal may be) it will also give you a boost of confidence because I offer 100% support and commitment to you!

“I have been working with Sarah for several months, we have 2-3 training sessions per week. During this time, I have lost a dress size, become stronger, more toned and noticed a huge difference in my overall well-being. I have struggled for years with managing my weight and sticking to an exercise programme. It feels amazing to have finally achieved something that I had nearly given up on.  Sarah is wonderful to work with, she is patient and extremely informative on all aspects of exercise and nutrition. Sarah has given me confidence using the gym equipment and has shown me what you can achieve with the right motivation and guidance.”

Eat Healthier

EAT HEALTHIER

I have a Level 3 Diet and Nutrition qualification and have many years’ experience. Due to my sports and Body Fitness competition background I have tried and tested many different eating plans over the years. My main aim will be to offer guidance to get you eating a healthy and nutritional diet, based on the National Healthy Eating Guidelines.

During my prep for Body Fitness competitions I control my food intake. It is never the case of losing weight quickly, more a controlled and gradual reduction. I count my macro-nutrient intake, measuring and weighing foods. Unless you are looking to compete, your food intake will not be controlled anywhere near as strictly as this.

I will guide you, making minor adjustments as needed. The aim will be to make small ‘habit’ changes become normal and then you will not have to think about it, it will be second nature. This could be as simple as drinking an extra 2 pints of water a day. Once you have been doing this for a while, it will be a habit a good habit! We would then change something else! Simple on paper but sometimes you need guidance and support. This is where I come in, offering meals plans, healthy recipes, helping with motivation and just generally being a friendly and professional mentor.

“My diet needed to change, I had no idea how to shop for food, I couldn’t seem to plan meals and just ended up eating convenience foods. Sarah re-educated my eating habits, explained the ‘Eatwell Plate’ simply so that I understood it. She explained how to shop for my weekly food and now I don’t just buy anything I stick to what is on my shopping list. I now have a healthy varied diet thanks to Sarah!”

Manage Diabetes Through Exercise

Manage Diabetes Through Exercise

Did you know that physical activity lowers your blood glucose level? This is why it is very important to exercise regularly if you have diabetes.
Like anyone else, you should aim to do at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, such as cycling or fast walking, every week, this is the recommended national guidelines.

However, before starting a new activity, speak to your GP or diabetes care team first. This is because exercise will affect your blood glucose level so your care team may have to adjust your insulin treatment or diet to keep your blood glucose level steady when starting an exercise programme.

As a Level 4 Obesity & Diabetes specialist I can assist you in setting a personalised exercise programme tailor-made for you. This will include a mixture of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise and light all over body resistance work.

You will have the freedom of using a small, friendly, quiet gym to follow your programme on your own or have 1 2 1 sessions with myself. Whatever you choose you will be given guidance in using the correct technique which will make you confident and comfortable in a gym environment.

Testimonials

I had back surgery 18 months ago and Sarah encouraged me to continue exercising to aid my recovery. My recovery would not have been anywhere near as good without her expert knowledge and help. She is always supportive and takes time to ensure you are confident in what you are doing, whilst making the whole experience challenging and enjoyable. Sarah is a fantastic motivator and will always inspire you to work to your full potential while keeping correct technique.

Julie Evison

I started working with Sarah as part of my training for a television challenge with Davina McCall.
Initially I was incredibly anxious, had medical obstacles, overweight and unfit.

Sarah worked closely with me and completely understood my fears and limitations. She was able to relax my nerves and listened to my needs. She worked in a dedicated and understanding manner, to provide a programme that would give me an improved and stronger body, one that could undergo my ice skating performance.

Sarah worked on my diet, and my fitness and strength with a personalised programme, that she adapted, delivered and monitored with genuine commitment and motivation. I could not have done it without her.
